Notice to Germans concerning the elections to the European Parliament

The election of members of the European Parliament from the Federal Republic of Germany will take place on 9 June 2024.


Germans who reside outside the Federal Republic of Germany, are aged 16 or over and no longer have a domicile within the federal territory may be eligible to vote in the election.


In addition to fulfilling the electoral requirements applicable to all voters, they must
1.1 on election day have been domiciled in one of the other member states of the European Union for the past three months or more, or have had their habitual residence there for that period (residence in the Federal Republic of Germany immediately prior to residence in such country counts towards this three-month requirement),


or


1.2 either, within the last 25 years and after attaining the age of 14, have been domiciled without interruption in the Federal Republic of Germany for at least three months or otherwise have had their habitual residence there, or for other reasons have acquired a personal and direct familiarity with the political conditions in the Federal Republic of Germany and be affected by them;


2. be registered on an electoral roll in the Federal Republic of Germany. Registration is possible only upon application. The application must be made on an official form and should be submitted soon after publication of this notice.
Applications not received by the competent municipal authority before or on 19 May 2024 cannot be accepted (Section 17 (1) of the European Election Regulations).
Application forms and information sheets are available online from the Federal Returning Officer (www.bundeswahlleiterin.de). They may also be obtained from:
- the Federal Returning Officer at the following address: Die Bundeswahlleiterin, Statistisches Bundesamt, Zweigstelle Bonn, Postfach 17 03 77, 53029 Bonn, Germany
- district and municipal returning officers in the Federal Republic of Germany.
For eligible voters who are in Jamaica, the courier route can be used for sending the postal voting documents by the electoral offices to the embassy and for returning the completed postal voting documents to the electoral offices. The postal voting documents must be received at the embassy by May 15, 2024 at the latest. The person entitled to vote is responsible for sending and receiving them on time.
