The Federal Republic of Germany has extended its entry stop for all “non-essential travels” from third countries by another 30 days until May 15th, 2020, in line with a recommendation by the EU Commission.

The Federal Republic of Germany has extended its entry stop for all “non-essential travels” from third countries by another 30 days until May 15th, 2020, in line with a recommendation by the EU Commission.

The following remain specifically excluded from this entry ban, but are subject to mandatory self-quarantine at home or in a suitable facility for the period of 14 days (with the exception of passengers in transit and transport personnel):

• all EU citizens (including British citizens) and citizens of the Schengen Associated States and their family members returning to their usual place of residence

• third-country nationals who are long-term residents (including persons holding national visas) returning to their habitual residence

• third-country nationals with so-called “essential functions”, which, according to the resolution, include:

- Healthcare professionals, health researchers, elderly care professionals
- Frontier workers, transport personnel engaged in haulage of goods and other transport staff to the extent necessary (e.g. air crews),
- Diplomats, staff of international organisations, military personnel and humanitarian aid workers in the exercise of their functions
- Passengers in transit (including those having been repatriated through consular assistance)
- Passengers travelling for imperative family reasons
- Persons in need of international protection or for other humanitarian reasons
